Good Bye Mr. Spaulding…February 19, 2003
The regular season
doesn’t start for another 6 weeks but
SportingBetUSA already has the odds posted for this year’s homerun
champion.
SportingBetUSA has Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, and Sammy Sosa as
favorites at 4-1. Last year Rodriguez led the group with 57. Providing
that there are no effects from the procedure on his elbow and managers
decide to pitch to him, then Bonds could have another record year. Sammy
Sosa has been the most consisted home run hitter in the last 5 years.
All alone in at 15-1
is Jim Thome. Thome had 49 home runs in 2001 and 52 last year.
Sluggers Jason Giambi,
Ken Griffey Jr., Manny Ramirez, and Troy Glaus are all at 20-1. Giambi
and Griffey both realistically could challenge for the top spots, Ramirez
has to shake the second half inconsistencies that have plagued him the
past two years. Troy Glaus is a fine slugger but his home run totals
trailed off last year down to 30 after hitting 41 the year before.
Lance Berkman and Todd
Helton at 25-1; and Pat Burell and Richie Sexon at 30-1 help round out the
top eleven spots. Berkman still young has been improving every year and
smoked 42 last year, Helton had an off year last year hitting only 30
after parking 49 and 42 the two previous years. Pat Burell is another
youngster who after 3 years in the bigs hit 37 last year, and Richie Sexon
hit 37 last year for the Brewers.
There are 22 others
that
SportingBetUSA offers odds on or you can take the field at 20-1.
There seems to be a good mixture of both young talent and wily veterans
that you are able to choose from.
35-1 are
Vladimir Guerrero and Shawn Green.
40-1 are
Carlos Delgado,
Eric Chavez, Jeff Bagwell,
Luis Gonzalez, Phil Nevin, Rafael Palmeiro and
Ryan Klesko.
45-1 is
Gary Sheffield.
50-1 are
Adam Dunn,
Albert Pujols, Alfonso Soriano,
and Larry Walker.
60-1 is
Magglio Ordonez.
75-1 are
Andruw Jones, Brian Giles, Chipper Jones, Jim
Edmonds, Miguel Tejada, and
Mike Piazza.
The 100-1 long shots
are Hideki Matsui and
Preston Wilson.
Good Luck and bet
smart.
